Clark Family Reunion

Over the Thanksgiving holiday we joined roughly 30 other members of the Clark tribe for a family reunion at the home of Sandy and Al, affectionately known as Sandral. It's a beautiful place set on gorgeous property in South Carolina. It bumps up against Table Rock State Park which is where all the cousins and their kids stayed. It was great to see everyone again. The last reunion was about 12 years ago so we had a lot of catching up to do!

As per usual, when you a get a few Clarks together there's bound to be gaming and this time was no different. Some of the guys also got a 500 piece puzzle in too. Well, at least until the dogs came around then tails wagged and pieces flew. Many of us had kids since the last reunion and it was so great to get the chance to meet them in person and watch them all playing together. They became fast friends and partners in crime.

Thanksgiving dinner was a real treat. We all had something to bring and everything was so delicious. I made a modified version of this sweet potato recipe that turned out really well and had lots of people returning for seconds. If you want to know how I did it, leave me a comment with your email and I'll send it to you. It's really quick, easy and yummy!

On Friday a bunch of us headed to Issaqueena Falls and Stumphouse Tunnel for a hike. Stumphouse tunnel is an old railroad tunnel that was abandoned before it was finished due to financial troubles. In 1951, Clemson University bought the tunnel and used it to cure the South's first bleu cheese. Now, it's the home of these little guys. (Thanks to Auntie Lauren for this image)

Saturday a group of us gals (and Tony :) braved the rain and headed up to Table Rock for a hike while our other-halves stayed home and wrangled the kiddos. It was a smaller group so we had the chance to chat and get to know one another a bit better. By the end we were soaked and cold but I think we were so happy to have some girl time that it didn't matter. lol!

Sunday rolled around way too fast and it was time for most of us to leave. It was so great to see everyone again and we vowed that the next reunion would be in 3-5 years instead of 12. I'm already getting excited. We left South Carolina and headed even further south to Florida to spend a few days in Disney. I'll talk more about that in another post. For now, enjoy some photos and a slideshow from our family reunion.

So fun! It's been years since my family has done a big reunion. It's nice that your kids are old enough to remember this, too. :)
